# Introduction

In this lesson you'll learn how Microsoft 365 discovers, classifies, protects, governs, and monitors sensitive information across its lifecycle using Microsoft Purview. Microsoft Purview is Microsoft’s unified data governance and compliance solution that helps organizations protect information wherever it lives — documents, email, collaboration tools, or AI-generated content.
This module covers five core areas of data protection and governance in Microsoft 365:
