# Module Introduction

> Introductory module covering AI fundamentals, responsible AI principles, and how to build AI solutions using Microsoft Azure.

Welcome to "Getting Started with AI."

This module introduces the essential concepts you need to begin working with artificial intelligence. If AI feels unfamiliar, don’t worry — we start with fundamentals and progress step-by-step toward practical, responsible usage and building solutions on Microsoft Azure.

What you'll learn in this lesson (high level):

* Fundamentals of artificial intelligence: what AI is and how it works at a conceptual level.
* Core principles of responsible AI: fairness, privacy, transparency, and reliability.
* How to get started building AI solutions on Microsoft Azure: key services and developer tools.

| Objective | What you'll learn | Why it matters |
| - | - | - |
| Fundamentals of AI | Basics of machine learning, pattern recognition, language understanding, prediction, and content generation. | Provides the mental model to understand how AI systems are built and evaluated. |
| Responsible AI | Principles like fairness, privacy, transparency, and robustness; brief discussion of common risks and mitigation strategies. | Ensures your AI systems are trustworthy and reduce harm to users and communities. |
| Azure AI solutions | Overview of Azure AI services for language, vision, and generative AI, plus tooling for building and deploying applications. | Helps you accelerate development using cloud-hosted components rather than building everything from scratch. |

1. Explain the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence (AI)\
AI enables computer systems to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence — for example, recognizing images, understanding and generating language, making predictions from data, or generating creative content. In this module you’ll build a conceptual foundation covering:
   * What machine learning and deep learning are and how they differ.
   * Core tasks: classification, regression, clustering, sequence modeling, and generation.
   * How models are trained and evaluated.

2. Introduce the core principles of responsible AI\
Building AI is not only a technical exercise — it requires designing systems that are trustworthy and ethical. We’ll cover practical guidance on:
   * Fairness: avoiding biased outcomes across different groups.
   * Privacy: protecting user data and minimizing data collection.
   * Transparency: documenting model behavior and limitations.
   * Reliability and safety: testing for robustness and monitoring in production.

Recommended background: familiarity with basic programming concepts (variables, functions) and an interest in data-driven systems is helpful but not required. If you want a primer before continuing, see the [Kaggle Learn Intro to Machine Learning](https://www.kaggle.com/learn/intro-to-machine-learning) or [Microsoft Learn: AI Fundamentals](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/paths/azure-fundamentals/).

3. Get hands-on with AI solutions on Microsoft Azure\
Azure offers managed services that simplify building AI applications. Instead of implementing every capability from scratch, you can use Azure services for tasks such as:
   * Natural language understanding and generation (language models, LUIS).
   * Computer vision and image analysis.
   * Generative AI and content synthesis.
   * End-to-end tools for model deployment, monitoring, and responsible AI tooling.

By the end of this module you will have moved from understanding AI fundamentals, to learning how to apply AI responsibly, to seeing how AI solutions can be built using Microsoft Azure. These three objectives provide the foundation for the rest of your AI learning path.
