# Course Overview

> Course preparing CloudOps engineers for AWS CloudOps Engineer Associate exam with hands-on labs, monitoring, automation, reliability, security, networking, optional cost optimization, and practice assessments

Welcome, future CloudOps engineers and cloud operators — I'm Michael Forrester. This lesson explains the course layout, expectations, and how to prepare for the AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer — Associate certification.

This training emphasizes monitoring and managing AWS environments at scale, automating routine tasks, implementing infrastructure at scale, and improving operations for reliability and security. There is also an optional cost optimization module (note: cost optimization is not covered on the 2025 exam). The primary objective is to prepare you for the CloudOps Engineer Associate exam with hands-on practice and exam-style assessments.

Who is this course designed for?

* Cloud practitioners transitioning to CloudOps: DevOps engineers, cloud engineers, systems administrators, operations managers, and site reliability engineers working with AWS.
* Recommended baseline: Cloud Practitioner-level knowledge. If you don’t yet have that background, see the [AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02)](https://learn.kodekloud.com/user/courses/aws-cloud-practitioner-clf-c02) course for foundational topics and exam readiness.
* Optional self-assessment: take the prerequisite exam to gauge your starting knowledge before you begin.

Course structure — high level

* Opening section: instructor introductions, how to study, a pre-assessment to measure baseline knowledge, plus answers to common questions.
* Core content: six content sections mapped to operational domains relevant to the CloudOps role. Five domains align to the current exam blueprint; the sixth (cost optimization) is optional and included for real-world operational value.
* Active learning: hands-on labs, demos, interactive quizzes at the end of each section, drag-and-drop exercises, and domain-specific practice exams.
* Closing section: course summary, an exam readiness checklist, and curated resources for continued study.

Study advice: create a consistent study plan, practice in the AWS Console and CLI, and reserve focused time for hands-on labs and review.

Domain mapping and updates

This course covers six domains in total — five core domains that map to the current CloudOps Engineer Associate exam and one optional domain for cost-related operational practices.

| Domain | Focus | Exam relevance |
| - | - | - |
| Monitoring, logging, remediation, and performance optimization | Implement observability, analyze logs/metrics, automate remediation, and tune performance | Core (note: performance optimization placement updated in the exam blueprint) |
| Reliability and business continuity | Design for fault tolerance, backups, recovery, and operational resilience | Core |
| Deployment, provisioning, and automation | CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated provisioning and scaling | Core |
| Security and compliance | Identity and access management, monitoring compliance, and securing workloads | Core |
| Networking and content delivery | VPC, routing, load balancing, CDN, and hybrid connectivity | Core |
| Cost optimization (optional) | Cost monitoring, rightsizing, and operational cost controls | Optional (included for operational value; not required on the 2025 exam) |

Assessments and practice

* Pre- and post-assessments: measure knowledge gains and readiness.
* Per-domain reinforcement: each domain concludes with quizzes, hands-on labs, and a domain exam to mirror certification-style questions and real-world scenarios.
* Full practice exam: 65 questions, 130 minutes — use this timed assessment to evaluate readiness under exam conditions.

Final notes

<Callout icon="lightbulb" color="#1CB2FE">
  The cost optimization domain is optional for exam preparation (not required for the 2025 CloudOps Associate exam) but is included to provide practical operational skills you can apply in real AWS environments. Skip it if you’re focusing strictly on exam topics.
</Callout>

Summary: this lesson assumes Cloud Practitioner-level knowledge and provides six content sections (five aligned with the exam), plus hands-on labs, quizzes, and practice exams to prepare you for the CloudOps Engineer Associate certification. Adopt a steady study schedule, practice regularly in AWS, and use the course resources to maximize your success.
