# Where Are You Now Take an Assessment Explained

> Guidance on a mock assessment for the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional track, score-based recommendations, and domain coverage to decide whether to proceed or strengthen associate-level fundamentals

Welcome. This lesson explains the prerequisite mock assessment for the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional preparation course and helps you decide whether to proceed directly to this professional track or strengthen fundamentals with an associate-level course first.

The AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certification validates advanced cloud operations skills across implementing continuous delivery systems, automating security controls, monitoring distributed systems, and managing automation tools. The exam focuses on real-world, scenario-based problems that require end-to-end system design thinking and evaluating trade-offs for operational resiliency.

Why take the mock exam?

* It helps you benchmark your current knowledge against professional-level expectations.
* It reveals specific gaps so you can target study time effectively.
* It prevents spending effort on advanced topics before core operational concepts are solid.

Take the mock exam to gauge whether you already have the skills required for professional-level content. If you score below 70%, consider strengthening fundamentals first.

Quick guidance by mock-exam score:

| Score range | Recommended action |
| - | - |
| Below 70% | Consider taking an associate-level course first (for example, the [AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate](https://learn.kodekloud.com/user/courses/aws-certified-sysops-administrator-associate)) to build core operational skills, then retake the mock exam. |
| 70% or higher | You likely have a solid foundation to proceed with the DevOps Engineer – Professional course and focus on the deeper, scenario-driven topics and exam strategy. |

Core domains covered by the course and mock exam
The course and mock exam align to six core domains emphasized by the professional exam: SDLC automation, configuration management, infrastructure as code, resilient solution design, monitoring, and security & compliance. Expect higher complexity and scenario nuance compared to associate-level exams.

![A presentation slide titled "Mock Exam Coverage" listing six numbered topics: SDLC automation, Configuration management, Infrastructure as code, Resilient solutions, Monitoring, and Security compliance. Each item is shown in a colored rounded box with numbers 01–06.](https://mintcdn.com/kodekloud-c4ac6d9a/ugakKsMxX_EXXogn/images/AWS-Certified-DevOps-Engineer-Professional/Introduction/Where-Are-You-Now-Take-an-Assessment-Explained/mock-exam-coverage-01-06.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ugakKsMxX_EXXogn\&q=85\&s=8744c731f3841500de744adcd3673a0a)

Domain overview (what to expect)

| Domain | Key focus areas / example topics |
| - | - |
| SDLC automation | CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies (blue/green, canary), build and artifact management |
| Configuration management | Tools and patterns (Ansible, Chef, Puppet), idempotency, drift detection |
| Infrastructure as Code (IaC) | CloudFormation, Terraform, resource lifecycle, modular templates |
| Resilient solutions | High availability, fault isolation, disaster recovery patterns |
| Monitoring | Observability, metrics/logs/traces, alerting, SLO/SLI design |
| Security & compliance | IAM practices, secrets management, automated compliance checks |

Next steps

* Take the mock exam if you haven’t already. Use the results to focus your study plan.
* If your score is below 70%, prioritize an associate-level CloudOps course to strengthen operational fundamentals, then return to the professional track.
* If you score 70%+, proceed with the DevOps Engineer – Professional course and concentrate on scenario-based practice and trade-off analysis.

If you score below 70% on the mock exam, it’s strongly recommended to reinforce associate-level operational skills first. Jumping straight into professional content without the foundations will make the advanced scenarios much harder to master.
