# OpenShift Installation Methods

> Guide to creating a Red Hat account and accessing OpenShift downloads, documentation, and installation resources for local, cloud, or bare metal environments

Before you start installing or using OpenShift, you must register for a Red Hat account. A free Red Hat account gives you access to documentation, downloads, and developer resources referenced throughout this guide.

Follow these steps to create your Red Hat account:

1. Open your browser and go to `https://access.redhat.com`.
2. Click the registration button and choose an account type — typically "Personal" if you're following this guide independently, or "Corporate" if your employer provides credentials.
3. Provide the requested information: username, password, first and last name, job title, email address, and any other required fields.
4. If prompted, enter company or address details.
5. Submit the form and check your email for a verification link. Click the link to activate your account.
6. After verification, sign in to access OpenShift downloads, documentation, and developer tools.

Pick a username (for example, `testuser92`) and complete the other personal fields. If the registration flow requests company information or an address, provide those details to finish the form.

When all fields are completed, click the "Create account" (or similar) button. You must confirm your email address before the account is fully active — check your inbox and follow the verification link. Once verified and logged in, you'll be able to access the OpenShift resources and downloads referenced in this article.

Use the "Personal" account option if you're following this lesson independently. If your organization provides credentials, use the "Corporate" option instead.

A free Red Hat account lets you access documentation, downloads, and some trial or developer resources. It does not automatically include paid Red Hat subscriptions. Some production OpenShift offerings or support services require a separate subscription.

Account types at a glance:

| Account Type | Use Case | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| Personal | Individual learning, testing, and developer access | Best for self-paced learning and developer tools |
| Corporate | Organization-managed access with company info | Use when your employer provisions a subscription or SSO |
| Example username | N/A | `testuser92` (use backticks when entering examples) |
