Kubernetes and Cloud Native Security Associate (KCSA)
Introduction
Course Introduction
Kubernetes has emerged as the de facto platform for modern workloads—often dubbed “the Linux of the future.” From powering AI giants like ChatGPT and OpenAI to handling massive microservices deployments, Kubernetes drives the infrastructure behind today’s fastest-growing technologies. According to Indeed, Kubernetes job searches surged by over 173% year over-year, making advanced Kubernetes security skills highly sought-after.
Welcome to the Kubernetes Cloud Security Associate (KCSA) course. I’m Mumshad Mannambeth, your instructor. While understanding Kubernetes itself can be challenging, securing it adds another layer of complexity. In this course, you’ll learn both the fundamentals of Kubernetes and deep-dive into securing clusters, workloads, and platforms with real-world scenarios and hands-on labs.
Note
No prior security background is required. We start from first principles and build up to industry-standard practices.
Whether you’re a developer, a systems administrator, or a security professional, if you already understand core Kubernetes constructs, you can dive straight into the security modules. If you’re new to Kubernetes, we recommend completing one of the following first:
- Kubernetes for Absolute Beginners – Hands-on Tutorial
- Or proceed to the prerequisite modules if you have some Kubernetes experience.
This isn’t a theory-only series—it’s loaded with labs and real-world exercises.
Course Overview
Module # | Module Title | Key Topics |
---|---|---|
1 | Cloud Native Security Fundamentals | Defining cloud-native security, threat landscape, shared responsibility |
2 | Kubernetes Cluster Component Security | Securing etcd, API Server, Controller Manager, Scheduler |
3 | Kubernetes Security Fundamentals | Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Network Policies, Pod Security Standards |
4 | Kubernetes Threat Model | Identifying vulnerabilities, attack vectors, risk mitigation |
5 | Platform Security | OS hardening, container runtime safeguards, network isolation |
6 | Compliance and Security Frameworks | CIS Benchmarks, NIST, GDPR, PCI-DSS alignment |
By the end of this course, you’ll have both the theoretical understanding and practical experience needed to architect and secure Kubernetes environments at any scale. We’ll also provide several mock exams to help you prepare for the official certification.
