Welcome to “Harnessing AI-Assisted Development” — Module 2: Planning. This lesson shows how to speed up and improve software planning using generative AI. Rather than spending hours producing planning artifacts by hand, you’ll use AI to create, validate, and iterate on the core documents and visualizations that drive implementation. What you’ll produce in this module:
  • Clear requirements analysis that captures scope, constraints, and acceptance criteria
  • Structured user stories and prioritized backlogs for rapid sprint planning
  • Architecture diagrams and component maps tailored to your project
Why this matters: using generative AI for planning reduces ambiguity, surfaces edge cases earlier, and turns high-level ideas into implementation-ready specifications faster. What we’ll cover:
  • How to prompt AI to extract and synthesize requirements
  • Techniques for generating and refining user stories automatically
  • Creating architecture diagrams from prompts and refining them with feedback cycles
  • Validating outputs so they meet real-world engineering constraints
Table: Planning artifacts, purpose, and example AI tools Learning outcomes
  • Produce a complete, AI-assisted planning packet that includes requirements, prioritized user stories, and at least one architecture diagram.
  • Use iterative prompting to refine AI outputs until they meet acceptance criteria.
  • Integrate AI-generated artifacts into existing team workflows (e.g., issue trackers, design docs).
In this lesson you’ll practice using AI to produce and validate planning artifacts, so you can move from idea to implementation-ready specifications more quickly.
