Welcome — I’m Michael Levan. In this OpenShift course on KodeKloud we’ll cover OpenShift from fundamentals to advanced topics with both hands‑on labs and conceptual explanations. Whether you are new to OpenShift, transitioning into a team that uses it, or already working with OpenShift and want to fill gaps, this course is designed to get you productive quickly. We’ll start with the basics and progressively move to more advanced areas. Topics range from creating your first Red Hat account to securing an OpenShift environment using RBAC and best practices. Key areas covered in this course:
  • Projects, users, and groups — how to grant and manage access with RBAC.
  • Builds and deployments — deploying applications from Git, manifests, and the CLI.
  • Networking — services, routes, and exposing applications.
  • Storage and templates — dynamic provisioning, storage classes, PersistentVolumes (PV), and PersistentVolumeClaims (PVC).
A slide diagram on the left shows an orange box labeled "Persistent Volume" with icons (gear and database) illustrating storage. On the right is a close-up of a man wearing glasses speaking into a microphone while seated in a gaming-style chair.
This diagram highlights storage concepts such as Persistent Volumes and how they fit into application deployments. Later lessons will show step‑by‑step examples of creating StorageClasses, provisioning PVs, and binding PVCs to workloads. Course format and learning approach
  • Short video lessons with supporting illustrations and animations to reinforce concepts.
  • Hands‑on labs and CLI examples to apply what you learn.
  • Practical scenarios that mirror production tasks: creating projects, configuring RBAC, building images, deploying code, and configuring storage/networking.
If you prefer a quick overview, here’s a compact table of the main topics and concrete examples you’ll see in the course: If you need help: community and support
  • KodeKloud has active community channels and discussion threads where learners ask questions and share solutions.
  • There are dedicated channels for Kubernetes, OpenShift, and related topics — a great place to get unstuck or compare approaches.
If you run into problems, check the community first — many common issues and detailed answers are already available. Also refer to official docs for authoritative details.

I’ve participated in the community myself and seen helpful answers — definitely worth exploring while you learn. Before you begin
  • Create a Red Hat account if you need access to Red Hat resources: https://www.redhat.com/wapps/ugc/register.html
  • Familiarity with basic Linux commands, Docker/containers, and Kubernetes fundamentals will speed up your progress, but the course includes foundational reviews.
Make sure you understand cluster access and permissions before running administrative commands. Practice in a sandbox cluster or lab environment to avoid affecting production systems.
